Nayeli Lozano

SLEWS Program Intern

Nayeli participated in the SLEWS Program through Dixon High School during the 2014-15 school year, and joined us as a SLEWS intern at Land-Based Learning during January 2016 thanks to a grant from Youth Outside. Since January, she has provided support for Caring for our Watersheds, SLEWS, and FARMS Leadership Programs both in the office and during field trips. During her spring break Nayeli helped SLEWS Coordinator, Matt Lechmaier coordinate his final SLEWS day with Grant Union High School and accompanied Karen Swan to her final FARMS Leadership field trip in the Sacramento Valley where students visited Seka Hills Olive Press and learned how to graft apple trees! She enjoys the opportunity to learn something new each day, especially when it's about agriculture.

Nayeli is originally from Springdale, Arkansas but was raised in Dixon, California, which has provided a perfect setting to develop her love of agriculture. Following her junior year, Nayeli participated in a REAP Pollinator Apprenticeship through UC Berkeley where she assisted with native bee research at the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility. As a four-year member of Dixon's FFA Chapter, she earned her Greenhand, Chapter, and State degrees. Nayeli will be graduating from Dixon High School in June 2016 and plans to attend Sonoma State University to pursue a degree in agriculture.
