We Grow Urban Farm & Market

Farmer Nelson Hawkins was raised in the Sierra Foothills in Auburn, CA and is currently a resident of West Sacramento. In addition to a bachelor's degree from UC Davis, Nelson has been working in the field of agriculture for 9 years. His experience, combined with his education, has taught him about growing food in a sustainable and ethical way. 2018 marked the beginning of Nelson's own urban farm operation. His mission is to provide fresh, organically grown produce for the surrounding community, as well as local restaurants, grocery stores, and food co-ops. Nelson operates a seasonal weekly on-site farm stand where community members can purchase produce harvested just hours earlier.

Three Sisters Gardens of Broderick

Farmer Alfred Melbourne is owner and operator of Three Sisters Gardens and a long time resident of West Sacramento. Three Sisters Gardens is a nonprofit organization bringing community members together to grow food and lives. Their mission is to teach at risk youth how to grow/harvest/distribute organic vegetables and engage the community to get involved in supporting the at risk youth population in Yolo County.

Three Sisters Gardens is based on Traditional Native teachings of protecting our Mother Earth and respecting ALL living things. Their main goal is to give back to the community by inspiring and empowering youth through gardening. Like the Three Sisters legend of companionship planting, Three Sisters Gardens believes that our communities can begin to heal and thrive when all components, the youth, adults and elders are working together as one.
