Central Valley Youth Employment Program

About the Program

The Central Valley Youth Employment Program is a pilot job training and entrepreneurship development course for youth ages 18-24, living in rural communities in the greater Sacramento and Fresno regions. The program will help prepare young adults for jobs in the agriculture industry and provide support for entrepreneurs. There will be two classes of students in two regions, North Valley and South Valley. Each class will have a maximum of 12 participants from the following communities.

North Valley

Camptonville, Colusa, East Nicolaus, Esparto, Marysville, and Winters.

South Valley

Chowchilla, Coalinga, Laton, Reedley, Sanger, and Woodlake.

The Fresno Region and North State Region programs will begin the week of April 18, 2016 and will be weekly through the week of June 13th.

  • 8 weekly workshops with each workshop lasting 4 hours
  • 2 job shadows assignments

The 8-session program focus:

Leadership

In class training and practice of necessary 21st Century Skills to gain employment: resume and cover letter development, business dress and etiquette, working in a team, verbal communications, interviews, and networking.

Career Paths

Field visits to various agriculture businesses to learn about the diversity of opportunities and careers. Gain hands on experiences working side by side with industry professionals.

Business Opportunities and Planning

Meet entrepreneurs and spend time in specific industry sectors. Include job shadows and mentoring with industry professionals.

Examine business opportunities to service or provide products to agricultural companies.

Business Plan development; develop higher thinking skills of analysis in preparing a budget and executive summary.
