Oscar joined the CLBL Apprenticeship Team as Bilingual Education Coordinator in the summer of 2024. Oscar is a Sacramento native and holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Sacramento State University. Following his graduation, Oscar dedicated himself to fostering equitable access to higher education as the Recruitment and Outreach Specialist for the College Assistance Migrant Program and High School Equivalency Program at Sacramento State. His work directly supported agriculture workers and their families, facilitating their pursuit of educational opportunities.
In the Fall of 2023, Oscar embarked on an enriching journey to Spain, where he served as an English teaching assistant at a public high school for the 2023-2024 academic year. This experience broadened his cultural horizons and deepened his commitment to educational empowerment. Now back in his hometown, Oscar is excited to bring his diverse experiences and expertise to provide support in the establishment and maintenance of the new AgHire Program that will identify and train Spanish-speaking agricultural workers to advance their careers on the farm. Outside of work, Oscar finds joy in outdoor physical activities, exploring new podcasts, traveling, and finding peace by the ocean.
