CArbon Farm Manager: Farm & Climate Program

Position Overview

The Center for Land-Based Learning is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Carbon Farm Manager to lead the implementation and expansion of the Maples Carbon Farm Plan. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with multiple other program leads to plan for and manage the farm operations focusing on soil health, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable land and pest management practices to ensure the farm meets its carbon reduction goals. This role will also work to build partnerships with various stakeholders in the region. This position Is full-time (average 40 hours/week) and works from Woodland, CA, with occasional overnight travel across CA. Attendance at weekend events may also be needed at times.

Classification: Exempt, Full-Time
Pay: $70,000 – $80,000/Annually

Qualifications

  • Because our office is located in an area without access to reliable public transportation, and because this position requires occasional travel, we only recommend this job to applicants with access to a vehicle.
  • Knowledge of carbon farming principles, soil health, and agroecology
  • Five years of experience in farm management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Agronomy, Crop Science, or related field.
  • Driver’s License
  • Current Qualified Applicator Certificate
  • Ability to use farm management software and tools

Leadership and team management skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and operating farm machinery
Broad understanding of carbon farming principles, soil health, and agroecology
Experience In community engagement, research, and education Is strongly desired

Urban Agriculture Internship Program Coordinator

Position Overview

The Center for Land-Based Learning is seeking an Urban Ag Internship (UAI) Program Coordinator to assist with the execution of the UAI Program in Sacramento County. The UAI Program is a year-long paid internship in which Sacramento high school students gain skills and experience in sustainable agriculture, workplace readiness, and individualized self-development. This is a full-time (average of 40 hours/week) hybrid position based largely in Sacramento with the ability to work remotely and at CLBL Headquarters when required. The UAI Program Coordinator will offer direct support to our 20-25 Grant Union and Luther Burbank High school interns as well as to the 120-150 Academy students we offer supplemental workforce development training to. The position is essential in helping to grow high school students’ knowledge of sustainable agriculture, workforce skills, leadership abilities, and holistic life skills in order to become the next generation of agricultural leaders and natural resource stewards.

Qualifications

● Demonstrates commitment to valuing diversity and engaging individuals and communities across cultural and racial boundaries.
● Belief in and commitment to CLBL’s mission and work.
● Associates degree or equivalent work experience in agriculture, education, environmental science or related fields.
● Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth in informal (camp, program) or formal (classroom) settings, including experience developing and delivering lesson plans.
● Confidence in teaching and managing groups of students in various settings with empathy and cultural competence.
● Detail-oriented with the ability to communicate effectively with partners, teachers, and students.
● Previous experience in program coordination or management: communication, meeting facilitation, agenda planning, record maintenance, reporting, community outreach, and partner relationships.
● Proven writing skills, detail-orientation, and ability to communicate effectively.
● Ability and willingness to work with diverse students, partners, and stakeholders.
● Willingness to work as a collaborative team and engage in reflective feedback.
● Ability to work in the field (lifting, planting, hiking, etc.).
● Strong preference for individuals currently living in the Sacramento region.
● Strong preference for individuals who are bilingual, especially in Spanish or Hmong.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing weekly intern work hours at Grant Union and Luther Burbank.
  • Collaborate to create and deliver workforce development, leadership development, social/emotional learning, and experiential learning curriculum throughout the calendar year to intern cohorts.
  • Collaborate to create and deliver workforce development curriculum to Academy students throughout the school year.
  • Collaborate to create and deliver workforce development curriculum to Academy students throughout the school year.Assist in coordinating guest speakers, career panels, and field trip opportunities for intern cohorts and Academy students.
  • Assist in maintaining an effective communication system with all students, teachers, and industry partners.
  • Assist in performing internship administrative duties.
