Maureen Thompson

Farm Program Manager

Maureen Thompson has served as the Farm Program Manager for the California Farm Academy since the program's inception in 2012. Maureen earned her M.S. in Environmental Education from Lesley University / Audubon Expedition Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her graduate studies brought her to the Organic Centre in Co. Leitrim, Ireland. Here she worked to unite broken communities through farming as part of Ireland's Peace and Reconciliation Project, and assisted with vegetable production in their organic farm, thus putting her on a path to an exciting career in agriculture. She then moved to New York City where she worked with the City Parks Foundation to manage a community garden in the Bronx.

She followed her passion for farming and worked as the Assistant Farm Manager at Sisters Hill Farm, a 5-acre Community Support Agriculture Farm (CSA) in New York, and later moved to her home state of California and worked on a diversified vegetable farm in Half Moon Bay.

As the Farm Program Manager, she helps students and beginning farmers learn production practices as well as marketing and business planning to give them the solid foundation needed to get started with their own farm business. In her position with the California Farm Academy, Maureen is dedicated to growing new and successful farmers for California, AND good food!
