West Sacramento Urban Farm Program Coordinator
Heather joined CLBL as the West Sacramento Urban Farm Coordinator in April 2021. In this role, she helps to manage the Riverfront Farm site and connect local communities to fresh, ultra-local, culturally relevant produce through the Mobile Market program.
Heather was drawn to agriculture through people: in her explorations of food systems around the country and the world, she learned about the power of food and farming to knit together communities and create social change. She is passionate about bringing people together around food and land to create a more just and sustainable world.
After earning her B.A. in Anthropology and Human Rights from the University of Chicago, Heather began honing her technical farming skills in central Vermont (The Maplehill School and Farm) and coastal California (Pie Ranch), and fell in love with the work of growing food in a community-engaged way.
From there, she moved to rural Nepal, where she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer focused on nutrition-sensitive agriculture. Most recently, she worked alongside the master farmers at Full Belly Farm in the Capay Valley, learning the ins-and-outs of larger-scale organic livestock, fruit and veggie farming.
Heather is so excited that these paths have led her to the world of urban agriculture, and to a position at CLBL that allows her to keep her hands in the soil while working to directly serve the local community.
